The attack disabled access to online dockets, PACFile, PAePay and the Guardianship Tracking System, among other disruptions. State Supreme Court Chief Justice Debra Todd said the online portal was crippled by a denial-of-service attack, which is designed to keep legitimate users off a website.
Todd described the attackers in a Monday news release as a "faceless and nameless virtual opponent" and did not say whether authorities have identified any suspects. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FBI are investigating the attack.
"These anonymous actors attempted to undermine our mission to make justice accessible and to shutter the operation of the statewide court system," Todd said.
Todd said the court's websites are fully functional and praised the state and federal website administrative and information technology teams that restored them.
"While we are beyond the initial attack, our team remains ever vigilant in our attempts to identify and disarm the threat of continued and future cyber attacks and continues to fully participate in law enforcement's ongoing investigation," Todd said.
