Orange County, which at nearly 3.2 million residents is the state’s third most populated county, has named longtime technologist Ed Althof as its new assistant chief information officer and chief technology officer. Althof’s first day at the county will be Friday.
And as of July 8, veteran county director Kc Roestenberg has been named Orange County’s new chief information officer — ascending to the role immediately following the July 7 departure of longtime CIO Joel Golub, who joined Oracle’s Industry Strategy and Executive Outreach. Roestenberg’s career at Orange County dates to 1982 and includes time as its director of enterprise services. He was most recently the county’s director of IT Shared Services, according to his LinkedIn account. Roestenberg’s education includes studies at the University of Phoenix.
In serving as assistant CIO and CTO, Althof will take on an “existing position that was formally held by the current CIO, [Roestenberg],” the county told Industry Insider — California. The new CTO’s responsibilities will include “the majority of IT, ongoing support, and strategic project initiatives,” according to the county, including “day-to-day operational support for agencies [Orange County Information Technology] OCIT provides services for, and a slew of ongoing projects already in the queue.”
