Henderson, Nev., CIO Laura Fucci to Retire from City Service

Fucci, a Henderson native, acknowledges the hard work and many successes of the city's IT department staff as she prepares to retire from her post May 30.

After nearly seven years with the city of Henderson, Nev., Chief Information Officer Laura Fucci has announced her retirement.

Fucci announced her departure via Twitter with a tweet thanking the staff of the city’s Department of Information Technology. Fucci said in an email to Government Technology that her last day will be May 30.

As I head towards my last day of work, I want to acknowledge the great #TechTeam @cityofhenderson. Thank you for letting me be a part of your success! pic.twitter.com/nIZR071pHf — Laura Fucci (@Henderville) May 27, 2019
She said she is epileptic, and the condition is forcing her to retire earlier than expected. “My seizures have gotten progressively worse over the past few years and it’s time to stop work,” she explained.

She attributes the success of her department during her tenure to the hard work of the IT Team, city leadership and staff. A few projects she said she is proud of include: the development and implementation of a smart city program to improve residents' experience and public safety; a cybersecurity program to improve the security and resiliency; and an IT Governance program with a 10-year road map to reduce costs and improve up-time.

“Since I joined Henderson, the IT team has completed 270 projects,” Fucci said. “Pretty amazing.”

Fucci took on the CIO position with the city of Henderson in November 2012 with the goal of leveraging technology to improve services, according to her biography on the city website. Before that, she was CIO of Clark County, Nev.

Deputy CIO Russell Nelson will serve as acting CIO effective June 1. City leadership has not yet determined the next steps beyond that, Fucci said.

Patrick Groves was a staff writer for Government Technology from 2019 to 2020.
