Retiring legacy systems in large public-sector agencies is often a top goal for CIOs as they work to modernize processes, improve efficiencies and strengthen cybersecurity protocols. In fact, legacy modernization ranks as the No. 4 priority by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers’ 2023 survey as well as the latest edition — 2022 — of the Center for Digital Government’s* Digital States Survey. It’s worth noting as well that both lists have related items at the top: cybersecurity, digital government and customer experience.
