The app shut down in January, following problems with its service provider, Alltmont said.
The provider issues made not only their app cease operations, but multiple library district apps across the United States, she said.
“The company that supported (the app) and the one that created it, basically had a falling out; this was many months ago,” Alltmont said. “Everybody’s app went down.
“Even Cleveland Public (Library) went down. None of us wanted this to happen. None of us expected this to happen.”
After about two months of being offline, the app officially relaunched in early March, Alltmont said.
Despite the issues with the provider company, the app relaunched in its old form, she said.
“It’s just a really long process, it takes a lot, so it’s not an easy kind of fix,“ Alltmont said. “I think in the end when (the app provider) came back online, we all said, ‘Yay, we’re back.’
“All of us said thank God. No one wants to recreate an app and the hosting part of it, and all that stuff.“
The new app is the exact same as the old one, Alltmont said.
Users can open their app, log in with their old information and have nearly everything saved from before the original service went down, she said.
Not only is the app easy to use in its new and slightly improved state, but makes the entire user experience smoother at the branch, Alltmont said.
“It’s almost like your own personal page for the library,“ she said. “The ALPL (Avon Lake Public) library app continues to make accessing your library information and library searches easy, user-friendly, quick and exciting.“
Alltmont thanked library patrons for their patience during the time that the app was down.
Now that the service is back up and running, she said she is excited for users to access all library activities, especially with the upcoming eclipse events the branch has planned before April 8.
“Believe me, we are incredibly thrilled that we are able to have our app back,“ Alltmont said. “It’s going to make the user experience seamless, easy and user-friendly.
“When it went down months ago, our patrons felt it. They definitely noticed it.“
