Reed stepped away from state government to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.
"Interim Chief Information Officer J.R. Sloan is now the permanent CIO of the state effective immediately. With over 35 years of experience in the public and private sector, J.R. is a leader who empowers his colleagues and partners to achieve goals," the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology (ASET) office said in a LinkedIn post.
He has been a key point person for the rollout of the state’s cloud first policy, an initiative for cloud adoption at the Department of Administration and other state agencies. Sloan has been with the state of Arizona since 2013, after a 20-year career in the private tech industry.
In September, officials told Government Technology of Sloan’s plans to pilot blockchain applications, use machine learning to a wider degree and create an app for government services.
